Who am I?
Hello, my name is Rachelle. I am an Australian living the expat life in Holland for the past 20 years. I am married with 3 children. I have a funny sort of luck in life.
I am the person who enters a competition at a jewellers to win something shiny and end up winning an apron instead. Don’t laugh, this really happened.
I am a daughter of emigrants, Dutch and Austrian, and as you know I too am an immigrants and now I am a mother of a child who has migrated to Australia.
I grew up in bush lands south of Sydney. When I went on holidays to Europe I ended up meeting, my now, husband, and moving to Holland.
Ahh, young love. But what a difference between the two cultures.
I have experienced immigrating as a very lonely and sometimes soul crushing experience, especially during the holiday periods and when family members gather, say for a birthday.
As wonderful as modern technology is now, it is still a poor substitute for the real thing.
I was constantly comparing the two cultures and making myself more and more miserable to the point of a major burnout. This not only affected me but my entire family.
For many years I looked around for help and was unable to find the support I needed. I bounced around from therapist to therapist, then coach to coach.
Only when I started to look inwardly and took active steps to move forward beyond my pain and homesickness, was I able to find the strength I needed to thrive in my expat journey.
My background of 30 years in child education coupled with 10 years as an optical dispenser – I often worked two jobs at once – has given me a keen understanding of how to read people, what their needs may be and how to provide the support they may need.
I have completed an accredited NTI course in Life Coaching which I followed with an accredited Life Coaching course by Achology.
My life long curiosity about why people do what they do leads me to expand my knowledge every day. I am currently studying CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy).
Because I have gone through this process myself and quite often alone, I can offer you my unique perspective, humour and keen intuition to help you on your unique journey.
I understand the process and the journey you are walking.
I know how to guide you so that you can succeed.
It will be hard work, but I will be guiding you every step of the way. YOU ARE WORTH THE EFFORT.
